STRUGGLE AGAINST COMFORT: TARŌ OKAMOTO

 This exhibition begins with Tarō Okamoto’s refusal of comfort. When asked his profession, he answered, “I am a human being who is living life to the fullest as a human.” From that stance comes his idea of designing furniture that is intentionally uncomfortable, so we do not idle away time in everyday temptations.
The exhibition forms as a home with four essential rooms: a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Select works and basic instruments are paired in each room to disrupt the monotony and encourage the active use of his furnitures.
