STRUGGLE AGAINST COMFORT: TARŌ OKAMOTO

This exhibition begins with Tarō Okamoto’s refusal of comfort. When asked about his profession, he answered, “I am a human being who is living life to the fullest as a human.” From that stance comes his idea of designing furniture that is intentionally uncomfortable, so we do not idle away time in everyday temptations and keep moving forward.

The exhibition forms as a home with four essential rooms: a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Select works and basic instruments are paired in each room to disrupt the monotony and encourage the active use of his furnitures.
